Tiny Cake and Crescent Moon
Monday, May 29th, 2006My Grandpa has spent most of the last seven months in the hospital and finally after all this time, he came home last week. Yesterday was his 82nd birthday. My Grandma always makes a strawberry shortcake for everyone’s birthday, but since my Grandpa loves chocolate, I made him a tiny chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting.
Before the table could be set for dessert, Grandpa saw his personal cake and starting singing “Happy Birthday” to himself with knife in hand ready to cut a slice. We all quickly joined in, then he took his piece and ate it using — for the first time in seven months — his right hand! This is the hand that he couldn’t even lift, that he’d keep concealed underneath the blankets, and now here he is eating a piece of my cake with it!
