Chocolate Goodness
Wednesday, March 22nd, 2006 at 10:39 pmAs some of you might know, I was really into baking and cake decorating, and was the designated dessert provider for family functions as well as all workplace gatherings (as evidenced by this Flickr set).
Well, imagine the dismay of those around me when I mentioned that I wouldn’t be making those dairy-based desserts anymore. In my mind, I really thought my baking days were over. Then I found Costigan’s book More Great Good Diary-Free Desserts Naturally as well as a few other vegan cookbooks and realized there was a whole undiscovered country out there.
To explore what this whole new world has to offer, Christine and I took a class today on Dairy-Free Party Cakes taught by chef Fran Costigan. And if you think this stuff doesn’t taste absolutely amazing, then you’re crazy!!! Look at that slice on the right, does that not look like chocolatey goodness?

Your cakes look amazing! Especially the ice cream cake. Baking stuff is the only way I’ve been able to trick my family into eating anything vegan.
Oh, that last cake. Oranges with dark chocolate are such my kryptonite.
That class was so much fun Eve! Brad ate the samples we brought home and was in a chocolate coma for the rest of the night. He was amazed that all of those desserts were completely dairy-free! Whoo-hoo for vegan desserts!
I’m SO glad I found your blog. I’ve made quite a few of Fran’s recipes from her book and I have no idea she came out with another book! I feel like I’ve found buried treasure. I can’t wait to try some of these, they look phenomenol. =) You are so lucky that you are in NY and can learn from her in person….
