New ‘Wave’ of Guitars
Tuesday, March 28th, 2006 at 11:25 amRKS Guitars created “The Wave,” an electric guitar with interchangeable body shells and pick guards.

The guitar, which is handcrafted in America, is the first that features customization that’s fully user-executable. Modifications can be made in a few quick steps, and the company boasts that it can be done so simply that “a player can easily do it in between sets.” Since this model was able to function without supporting aluminum ribs, the guitar has a lighter, more compact ergonomical design as well as a lower price tag. The Wave will retail for $899, which is substantially less than the company’s existing guitars, which start at around $2,000.
I don’t know about you guys, but I think I might just want to beat the crap out of that pretentious guy who’s swapping out the color of his guitar between sets.
I mean, I dig the idea of having a guitar in various colors and the apparent ease of transition is certainly a cool aspect. But, honestly, why the hell would you need to change the color during the gig? And how exactly portable are these body plates? Do they fit easily into the case? Do you need an extra bag/case for them?
Plus, although you might give the “illusion” of having numerous guitars (seriously, who’s falling for that?), you still have to pack a back-up guitar in case a string breaks or the like. So now you’ll be dragging your back-up as well as the Wave and its interchangeable accompaniments. Oh, and your heavy-ass amp, too (let’s face it, amps are heavy!). Oh wait, AND your bag of cables, effects, plugs, tuners, extra strings, and adaptors.
But still, $900 is a good deal for a guitar smooth-sounding guitar and, obviously, ideal for the eccentric player.

I’d put the flamingo-pink accoutrements on it and leave it that way forever and ever.
If a guitar reminds me of cute merchandising-intensive programming such as Teletubbies, Care Bears, or My Pretty Pony, chances are this is not the coolest guitar in the world.
Nor does that distinction go to the Hello Kitty guitar. Yes there is one.
Speaking of Hello Kitty…Eve, have you seen this:

“eccentric” being the key.
