Aunt Eve’s Metal Mix for Metal Princesses in Training, Vol. #1
Monday, April 3rd, 2006 at 12:18 pmSince I’ve got Easter on my mind, I thought I’d flash back to Easter 2003.
Dave and I were married only a few months and this was my first Easter with my new niece and nephews. My protege Metal Niece was then an impressionable 10-year-old who had yet to earn her moniker, but her potential was already showing. So in her Easter basket, I included a “starter” heavy metal mix CD with tunes I compiled to help with her training. It was to be Volume 1 in what I imagined would be quite a voluminous catalogue.
Below is the entry I wrote about that Metal Easter:
My sweet little 10-year-old niece is actually the heir apparent to the Metal Throne. That’s right, one day she will become The Empress of Metal. She, too, will be made of steel, not clay, as it is with her predecesor. So, to help her to fullfill her destiny, I added something special in her Easter Basket this year: a CD labeled Aunt Eve’s Metal Mix for Metal Princesses in Training, Vol. #1.
Below are the songs that I thought should be used to begin her training:
AC/DC “Back In Black” ~
Led Zeppelin “Misty Mountain Hop” ~
Rush “Tom Sawyer” ~
Rush “The Spirit Of Radio” ~
Mötley Crüe “Too Fast For Love” ~
Damn Yankees “High Enough” ~
Dio “Rainbow In The Dark” ~
Ozzy Osbourne “Crazy Train” ~
Judas Priest “Living After Midnight” ~
KISS “Shout It Out Loud (Live)” ~
KISS “Rock and Roll All Nite” ~
Hole “Celebrity Skin” ~
Iron Maiden “Wrathchild” ~
Jimi Hendrix “Purple Haze” ~
Scorpions “Rock You Like A Hurricane” ~
Metallica “Battery” ~
Black Sabbath “Iron Man”Upon hearing the CD, she immediately went into a metal thrashing mad frenzy! That’s like the Metal Empire’s equivalent of pulling the sword from the stone!

As it turned out, my padawan learner had such a high midichlorian count that there was no need for further compilations. Thankfully, her advanced exceleration did NOT lead to tragedy. Metal Niece, now approaching 13, is still an eager apprentice with a steady diet of headbanging, metal horns giving, and electric guitar playing.

Nice list. And considering what you have on it, I don’t mind being volume 2. I’ll take it.
