X-MEN: The Last Stand
Friday, May 26th, 2006 at 11:59 pmBack in March, I wrote HERE that I was concerned about Halle Berry’s increased role in the third X-MEN movie:
… Thanks, Halle! Let’s see if all that Revlon face time of yours is worth it.
Well, I’m happy to report that after viewing last night’s midnight showing of X-Men: The Last Stand, I believe that Halle’s increased Revlon face time was indeed worth it because we finally got a taste of how powerful her character Storm really is.
While I enjoyed the film (with just a little bit of nitpicking), the main problem wasn’t with what was in it so much as what — or who — was left out. As with the previous two X-MEN movies, there’s a large ensemble cast of mutants who have various abilities, all of which fans would love to see demonstrated to their greatest capacity. Because of the limitations of a 100-minute movie, some major characters were benched to leave room to introduce new ones.
Otherwise, the long-awaited emergence of Jean Grey as Phoenix was great as was her steamy encounter with Wolverine at the mansion. Also, the battle sequences show off many mutant powers, much more than the previous films, and the growth of Xavier’s students is apparent. While there’s lots of warfare and killings (Wolverine seriously does some damage), there’s really no true villain (unless you count token-villain Magneto, who believes that mutants are superior to humans and as such, should rule over them). Each faction is fighting for what they believe to be right, which unfortunately, leads to violent resolutions.
I wrote my official review of the movie HERE.
X-Men: The Last Stand
If ever there was a reason to parade out all the superhero mutants, fighting a civil war would be the appropriate time. Too bad the movie knocks off a few favorites pre-war, and then when the fighting begins, you’re left to wonder where the hell is the rest of that ensemble cast? [READ MORE]
And, Dave2, you’ll be happy to know that water is not the enemy in this movie.
Oh, and don’t forget to stay til the end of the credits. There’s a small, but important scene that appears after ALL the credits finish rolling.
If you’ve already seen the movie, but missed the extra scene, leave a comment here with your email address and I’ll email you what you missed.

X-Men: The Last Stand
Aaah! I didn’t stay till after the credits! What was the small but important scene? I will die of suspense!
Meany, I’ll have to email you what you missed.
If anyone else missed the scene, leave a comment here and I’ll email you what you missed.
What Meany said. Gah. Thank you.
Email sent, Golfy girl.
Dave and I have been discussing the post-credits scene and let me tell you, it’s an absolutely significant piece of the story, so it sucks that people didn’t know to stay. I got a few people sitting near us to stay, though the credits took so long that I think they were wondering whether I was messing with them! The guy next to me seemed like he was on a first-date with the girl he was with and I think my information might have been the decision making point as to whether they’d make it to their second date! (She agreed to stay — points for her!)
I didn’t stay
Can you e-mail me too?
I had no plans to see this based on the lame, lame, LAME first two films. Maybe I should re-think things??
Well, Dave2, if you hated the first two movies, then I doubt you’ll like part 3, so you probably shouldn’t rethink it. I enjoyed the previous installments, so to me, The Last Stand was just more of the same. I’m not sure what is was about the X1&2 that you didn’t like (except for the whole water thing), so I don’t know if 3 will be any different for you. And I don’t want you to go see it, hate it, then tell all your legion of readers that I had a hand in you rethinking not going!
Everyone else, emails have been sent.
Dammit.. didnt see that final scene also… went to an advance screening.. and it wasnt even in the US, so I had nobody to alert me, it didnt even cross my mind.. so what happened???
Oh I loved your review of this SO MUCH Eve! I’ll admit that I was disappointed I didn’t get what I refered to as “the money shot” of Dark Phoenix rising out of the water, glorious red hair like a flame- (you know the cover!) but I did like the movie, and couldn’t really manage to be as disappointed as some reviews seemed to really want me to be. Getting Beast so right was really nice too, especially since I love him nearly as much as Wolverine.
But I totally didn’t stay for all the credits.
Oh forgetting to say that the best part for me was seeing Storm act so true to the comics- I finally wasn’t disgusted by the use of the character, and saw some Ororo there which made it feel more like X-men than anything else.

X-Men 3 - extra scene at end (spoilers!)
I saw the X-Men 3 movie today; really good!
However, I was asked to fill out a “Producers’ Questionnaire” with part before and part after the movie….
I was filling in the part after the movie, and low-and-behold, an extra scene came on briefly AFTER all the credits were over….
spoiler:Xavier’s voice (don’t remember what he said) talking to a nurse in a hospital room…Has anyone else seen this, or was it just for “Questionnaire” people ?
PLEASE e-mail me what I missed!!!
Lee
I missed the small scene with the credits… kindly elaborate please.
I absalutly, positivly thought X-men: the last stand was the best film out of the three, I thouroghly recomend this film to all ages as i believe you’ll agree. I must say Storm (Halle Berry) is my favourite out of the team; one I love the way her hair styles change in every film, 2 her powers are by far the best out of the team, controling the weather thats wicked! 3she great at fighting in the third film not as good in the others but it doesn’t matter. my favourite in the film is the scene in Jean Greys house I fight between Storm and Callisto was great and action packed seen as they seem to fight every time they meet. If you watch the deleted scenes on the DVD (to those who can afford the DVD) you’ll see that Storm uses lightning punches to defeat Callisto, also in the final fight scene she creates a wave from the sky and soakes everyone and then electrictutes them. So now, my question: is there going to be X-men 4? PLEASE TELL ME I’M DIEING TO NO!!!
