The Birthday

Thursday, November 2nd, 2006 at 1:18 pm

bdaycakeThe Birthday went exceptionally well.

At right is a photo of the cake that Dave had especially made for me from Baby Cakes. Is that a beautiful cake, or what? It was delicious, too. I was so delightfully surprised.

A few of my coworkers treated me to lunch and gave me very thoughtful cards and gifts, including a beautiful pair of purple butterfly earrings. After lunch, we went to the comic book shop (it was Wednesday after all) and the shop owner (who I love, love, love) not only gave me this week’s books for free, but also let me pick out any graphic novel I wanted — SCORE!!!

After work, Dave and I went out for Japanese food with James and Jenn, then back to my place for birthday cake. Jenn and James gave me some books, including the The Annotated Classic Fairy Tales — I love annotation! And a copy of Vegan Cupcakes Take Over The World — the best cookbook ever! Dave gave me some books and DVDs as well as the blender I soooo wanted (it matches my food processor) — KitchenAid Custom Metallic 5 Speed Ultra Power Blender Satin Copper.

And the phone calls, emails, text messages, and myspace comments poured in all day from my beloved friends and family. My father even called me, which was the first time EVER (he’s known for this anti-birthday stance). He put my baby sister on the phone who told me, “Hi Evie Birthday!”

Then I opened the rest of my presents. Whoa! I got lots. Most of my family sent money (always appreciated!), and well, I told you about Mama and Stepdad’s gifts. I feel bad because of all people in the world, Mama and Stepdad are two of the most thoughtful and I know they went to a lot of effort to give me meaningful gifts. Oh, wait, the last box just arrived, and it contains a Nightmare Before Christmas Jack and Sally paperweight — nice!!! See, Mama, it’s all good, don’t fret. I love all my gifts and I love you both!!!

Thanks to all who made me smile.

Oh Eve, your birthday sounds devine. And a cake from Baby Cakes!? Lucky girl. I can’t wait to go there when my hubby & I are in NYC next spring.

And have fun with VCTOTW, it’s a riot!

Warmest wishes for a very happy birthday, albeit belatedly. {Which for me, translates to “on time” , as I’m chronically late for just about everything. Le sigh. } Sounds like it was a kick ass time… a kickass Metal Maven certainly deserves no less!! Despite my being hella scarce around here/diaries in general anymore, rest assured I remain a devout Centurion at heart. Please forgive me, too? *HUGS!!!!*

When it comes to blenders, I am kind of inclined to go really old school with the original Waring Blender. It’s got a chrome, streamlined look, and only three settings: off, slow, and fast. When it comes to blending, classic is probably best.
