Birthday Week Round Up
Wednesday, November 8th, 2006 at 1:02 amBirthday
Thanks to all who contacted me for my birthday. It’s much appreciated. Fear not if you forgot, I’m a very forgiving person.
Blend
I’m totally loving the the blender Dave gave me for my birthday. Now, you might think that one does not have much use for a blender these days, but let me tell you, I’m bringing back blender!
Party All The Time
Aside from all that ice crushing I’m doing, I’ve been busy with my week-long birthday celebration because in Eve’s world, one day of birth = one week of partying. Now, I’m real tired and a bit bloated from all that eating and drinking. But, I’m back on track now, got up at 6:30 this morning to do my workout, so it’s all good.
Splatter
I mentioned last week that the GZ gang was going to see Evil Dead: The Musical. We ended up getting comp tickets for the late show on Friday. Great seats, too — 6th row — but Dave and I want to see it again in “The Splatter Zone” section. The people sitting there were given ponchos! It was the funniest play I’ve ever seen, I highly recommend it, especial for Evil Dead fans. I wrote a full review for GZ, check it out HERE.
Rock The Vote
So, I went out and rocked the vote today. Here in NYC, voting is a simple task. Most polling stations are mere blocks away, so no need to even get in the car and possibly be impeded by those election-day road blocks. And for me, voting is super easy: enter booth, push red lever, hit Dem down the line, push red lever back, exit. Simple.
Courtney Love
While I love democracy, I don’t like how election-day coverage totally screws up the rest of the television programming for the day. I’ve been waiting for The Tonight Show with Jay Leno to come on because Courtney Love is going to be on, but I have to wait for the election news to end. If you’re wondering why I’m waiting up for Courtney Love, it’s because I love her. Yup, I do. I don’t care about the drugs, the reputation, the public indecencies, the botched plastic surgeries. I’m a big fan of hers, always have been, probably always will be. Yeah, that first Hole album sucked, but there’s no denying that her strong personality was charismatic. When Live Through This came out, I thought it was one of the great albums of the decade — better than Nirvana. I never thought that Courtney stole songs from Kurt. I mean, just look at her writing style, it’s nothing like his. Just listen to her speak — and I mean when she really speaks — that’s an intelligent person who’s witty and can think on her feet. That’s not someone’s doppleganger. She’s her own person. You don’t survive as long as her if you’re not. I can’t wait to read her autobiography Dirty Blonde: The Diaries of Courtney Love. I got some advance press on it, along with notice of a book signing tour. NYC is on the list, but the only concrete dates were in California. I read a great review of the book on Salon. I expected the critics to trash her, as usual, but this reviewer really did it justice.
Candlemass
Candlemass is one of my favorite metal bands from the 80s. I put their song “Well of Souls” on a mix I made for my pal Smed, and it turns out he’s been paying it forward by putting it on mixes he’s making for other. (Did I get that pay it forward stuff right? I don’t even know.) Anyhow, I’ve been waiting for years for singer Messiah Marcolin to come back to the band and put out an album, which happened last year when Candlemass was released. Now I read this crap about how Marcolin left the band again and they’re looking for a new singer. What the fuck? All this time I’m waiting like an asshole waiting for them to tour the U.S. again, meanwhile the singer I want to hear leave the band. This sucks.
Listen to this podcast

I’ve always like Courtney Love, too. Her whole attitude with respect to female musicians is spot on: Don’t sleep with someone because he plays a guitar. Pick up the guitar yourself! Glad you had a rockin’ birthday, chica. Oh, and my target is March for the big move, if not before.
I love Courtney too, in spite of all the glee so many Mpls hipsters get from hating her. She seems no more crazy/mean than Kat Bjelland ever was and Kat gets all the cred instead. I loved the Poppy Brite written biography of Courtney too.
I love the Live Through This album, also. People make fun of me for it, too! …and damn, I wish the Evil Dead musical was playing in Atlanta.
I don’t like theater, but I’d absolutely go see Evil Dead: The Musical. But something tells me that Bruce Campbell is not in the original cast…
Hey, you know what. I lay even money that Messiah is back with the band within five years. Because they know who the moneymaker is for them. Sort of like why Eddie Van Halen keeps dancing with the David Lee Roth devil every now and then, even though he’d rather eat his own guitar than hang out with the guy.
Bust mag just did an article about Courtney’s new book–it looks really interesting. I’ve always been a fan of hers also
