Valentine’s Day + the Parties for the Moms

Monday, February 18th, 2008 at 2:58 am

Valentine's Day 2008Valentine’s Day was sweet. Dave and I had some veg food, then went to see The Spiderwick Chronicles at the IMAX theater.

Check out this AWESOME V-D card Dave gave me (see image at right). It’s a friggin bass — with real strings! Check out what he wrote on the inside:

Brett Michaels is jealous of me because I don’t have to constantly ask you if you’ll stay and continue to rock my world! You’re rockin’ it constantly by being my best friend and greatest love.

He rules, I swear.

Oh, and he got us tix for The Little Mermaid on Broadway! Can’t wait for that.

Aside from V-Day holiday, we’ve been real busy lately. Somewhere around 50 or more DVDs, CDs, and comic books arrive in the mail each month that we then send out to contributors for Geeks of Doom. I have to say that after a year (we opened the preliminary site on Valentine’s Day 2007), we’ve made great progress and working on the site day in and day out together has been great fun. It’s a lot of work, but it’s a labor of love, I swear. Working on the site brings great joy to our lives.

In other news, it’s been two years now since Dave and I went vegan and I think finally our families have not only come to terms with it, but have finally accepted it as a natural part of our lives.

Yeah, my bro still teases me, but that’s his thing. He teases everyone. I told him I was going to knock him out like Mr. T on A-Team, but when he wakes up he’ll be at a factory farm. He laughs because he knows if he went anywhere near one, he’d never eat meat again.

But really, it’s all good. My family now naturally makes sure that at parties there’s food for me to eat. My in-laws do that same.

This weekend was amazing, I have to say. Both my Mom and Mother-in-Law turned 60, and were given separate parties this weekend. The partying started on Friday and will continue through Monday night. Saturday we gave my MIL a party in a private room at a nice restaurant and all of her longtime friends and relatives came from out of town for the occasion. What was nice is that my Mama & Stepdad (who live in Arizona) were in town, so they got to come to the party along with my Bro and Grandma. Plus, my family was together with my in-laws AND my sister-in-law’s in-law, so we were all one big happy extended family.

Sunday was my Mama’s party at a restaurant, same type of thing. All of my in-laws came, the nieces, nephews, the entire posse and afterward we all went back to my Grandma’s house to continue the celebration. Both Moms were so happy with how the weekend turned out.

While at my Grandma’s house, Dave and I looked around to see our two families mingling and laughing and drinking together, having a wonderful time and we realized how truly lucky we are. You always here horror stories about “the in-laws” but that’s not the case with us. Dave and my brother are like best buddies when they get together. They always end up doing some project together, whether it’s jamming on guitar, or fixing some electrical problem, or doing something on the computer. As for me, my sister in law Al is so awesome. She is my sister, the sister I never had (my real sister is only 3 years old, so it’s a bit different). I never had a sister growing up, so it feels good when we’re together and she hugs me and tells me she loves me.

Yeah, I’m feeling emotional because I realize how much I am loved and how friggin kickass the life I share with my husband is. Every so often, you have to take notice of that and relish it. And I do.

Weeee!

Haven’t heard from you in a while, glad to see everything is fine. I want to go see the The Spiderwick Chronicles — was the movie good? Regular Imax or Imax 3D?

Awe, thanks for stopping by. Yeah, I’ve been busy with Geeks of Doom, so I haven’t had the time to write the personal stuff lately. Spiderwick Chronicles was a good movie, but truly, the books were way better. It was regular IMAX, not 3D. I’m working on writing the review for geeks of doom, so I’ll be back with a link to that when I post it.
