My Dad totally loves hockey. When I was a kid, Dad would position our lounge chair in the doorway between the living room and my parents’ bedroom so he could simultaneously view each room’s television: the Rangers game on the living room TV; the Philadephia Flyers game on the bedroom TV that had an antennae that picked up their games in Philly. Seriously, this guy loves his hockey.
The last time Dad and I went to a Rangers game was on New Year’s Eve 1987. We were up in the blue section where all the lunatic fans live. It was a really cool time, so for Dad’s birthday late last year, Dave and I got tickets for all of us to go see the Rangers at MSG. The game was yesterday, and unfortunately, the Rangers lost 2 to 3 to the Altanta Thrashers in overtime. Do you know how painful overtime is in hockey? It’s a slow and torturous death.
I like how you’re in the stands watching the game live in person, yet everything STOPS so the networks can go to commerical. Yes, there’s a game in play, then BAM! Commerical. Like I always say, there’s nothing like a little commerical break every five minutes to completely run the momentum of the game.
“But when do they play hockey?” my Dad asked.
Fuck if I know.
